What's so special about today's Google Doodle? It celebrates a very big day in Hip Hop History - the birthday of Hip Hop!

Hip Hop was born on this day, August 11, back in 1973 at a back-to-school party in the Bronx thanks to DJ Kool Herc, making today its 44th anniversary.

The doodle features a full history of how this casual block party turned into the birthplace of Hip Hop, as well as interactive turntables where you can choose your own records to scratch and get a taste of what it feels like to be a DJ. The doodle even features a very special cameo from members of the Growing Up Hip Hop family including Salt n' Pepa, Run-D.M.C., and Debarge.
