While discussing the journey of her career as well as the ups and downs of life, Vanessa says this has majorly influenced her desire to empower other women.
“Being from such an influential family, I have been put in a very privileged position. As I have grown up, I am realizing what makes me happy is being able to empower and inspire other women to live life by their own terms; fearlessly and to their fullest potential,” she explained.
She went on to say that through her website VanessaJSimmons.com she is able to do just that through fashion, beauty, fitness, and inspiration. She also features a ‘Mogul Crush’ on her website to highlight powerful and inspirational women. “As I grow and mature as an entrepreneur, I study other successful people and what it took for them to get to the place where they are today. I use their stories to motivate and empower myself,” said Vanessa.

How does one reach the empowered stage? Vanessa says it’s about getting the mental, physical, and emotional parts of yourself in check. “One huge factor in achieving all of the above for me has been working out. Just doing 30 to 40 minutes of cardio daily will not only keep you physically fit and healthy, but it also has great effects on your emotional state as well,” Simmons said. WE know the Simmons sisters love to get their work out on!
How does the busy elder Simmons sister balance her daughter, Ava Marie, her husband, and her business? “It’s all about balance! A part of that balance starts with organization,” she said. She added that sometimes she has to turn off her business brain and get into Mommy/Wifey mode!

Just like her little sister, Angela, Vanessa has soaked up the advice her legendary father, Rev. Run, has passed down. She says he has given her some of the most important life advice.
“One thing my dad always told me when I would get overwhelmed is, do your best and forget the rest,” she said.
She added that it reminds you to focus on putting your best foot forward and everything else will fall into place. WE think that’s some sage advice!
WE can’t wait to see her put that advice to good use along with the rest of the cast when the all-new season of Growing Up Hip Hop premieres Thursday at 9|8c!
